After the 49ers achieved a 36-30 victory over the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday, Christian McCaffrey made an appearance in front of the media showcasing a bit of a new style.
This look—well, it might not be permanent.
McCaffrey took to the podium dressed in a camo shirt and a white hat that also had a camo brim, but he was noticeably sporting a swollen lip.
Adding to his discomfort, he mentioned leaving the field with a sore throat after taking a hit during a “burst route” in the game.
McCaffrey’s appearance and voice truly represented the nature of the 49ers’ game. While it was a solid win that pushed them to the top of the NFC West with a record of 3-0, the journey there wasn’t exactly smooth.
The team faced challenges, with two key players succumbing to injuries once more.
Star free agent Mike Evans had to be carted off in the second quarter due to a rib injury and did not return. Additionally, all-pro left tackle Trent Williams was carted off during the third quarter with a neck injury, which was described as a “stinger.” Though Williams was seen on the sidelines, he did not re-enter the game.
Despite the injuries, McCaffrey had a standout performance, rushing 15 times for 75 yards and scoring a touchdown in the second quarter. He was also effective in the air, with four catches totaling 60 yards.
Quarterback Brock Purdy led the effort with a strong game, completing 15 of 27 passes for 297 yards and four touchdowns. His final touchdown pass might have been the key moment for the 49ers. With just 1:36 left in the game, he connected with George Kittle for a 20-yard gain, which gave the team a 35-27 lead they successfully maintained for the win.
