Christian Pulisic Shines in Friendly Against Senegal

Christian Pulisic is regarded as one of the top American soccer players globally, and many expect him to play a pivotal role for the U.S. national team in the upcoming World Cup. So, the anticipation for his goal-scoring ability during the friendly against Senegal felt a bit unusual, especially since he hadn’t scored since late December, when AC Milan faced Hellas Verona.

In the latest match against Senegal, Pulisic finally found the net in the 19th minute, which seemed to lift a burden he had been carrying. “Maybe we can stop talking about it now,” he remarked after the match, a hint of relief evident in his voice.

Despite a goal from Senegal’s Sadio Mane early in the second half, the U.S. secured a 3-2 victory, with Folarin Balogun scoring the decisive goal in the 62nd minute. Pulisic’s goal marked the end of his eight-game scoring drought while representing the national team, following 19 consecutive games without scoring for AC Milan.

“I felt confident, like I’ve been playing really well over the last few months, but it seems like all everyone wants to worry about is goals, so hopefully we can stop talking about that,” Pulisic said. He added, “I’m relieved to finally score.”

U.S. manager Mauricio Pochettino praised Pulisic’s performance, indicating that while his first 45 minutes were impressive, there is still room for improvement. He noted that Pulisic’s commitment and energy in training have been exemplary, and extending that performance over a full 90 minutes is the goal.

Looking ahead, the U.S. will face Germany in another friendly on Saturday, followed by their first Group D match against Paraguay in the World Cup.
