Christian Pulisic Suffers Injury During Loss to Belgium
Christian Pulisic, the American soccer player, reportedly sustained a microfracture in his leg during his team’s 4-1 defeat against Belgium in Seattle on Monday. It seems he also suffered bone bruises in his foot, but fortunately, the injury is expected to sideline him for only weeks instead of months. In the game, he made an attempt to shoot in the 52nd minute, but instead of connecting with the ball, he collided with a Belgian defender’s calf.
The 27-year-old Pulisic has faced significant criticism following his team’s elimination in the round of 16. His post-match comments about having time to “rest” over his injury did not sit well with many fans, sparking some anger.
In a recent social media post, Pulisic expressed his difficulty in finding the right words after the disappointing match. He thanked everyone who supported him, saying that their encouragement carried them through to the end. However, he felt he could have done more for the team, which must be frustrating. He noted that he still feels fortunate to be part of the squad and that the memories from this summer will last him a lifetime. He added that, for both the team and American soccer, this is merely the beginning.
Pulisic, who has been a prominent figure in American soccer since the beginning of the decade, experienced some struggles during the World Cup. He re-injured his calf in the opening match, causing him to miss nearly two full games. Upon his return, he played in the matches against Bosnia and Herzegovina and Belgium but found himself unable to perform effectively, ultimately needing to leave due to injury. Overall, in four World Cup appearances, he managed just two shots on target and one assist.
Now, the native of Hershey, Pennsylvania, will focus on recovering as he prepares to return to AC Milan and gear up for the upcoming Serie A season.
