Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) commended President Donald Trump and his administration for their role in securing the release of 20 Israeli hostages.
In a statement, Schumer shared insights from MSNBC correspondent Michael Schnell, who described it as a “great day,” emphasizing the return of the last living hostage taken by Hamas. Schumer remarked that while today is about celebrating these returns, he remains committed to ensuring all hostages, including those who lost their lives, are brought home.
“I applaud the relentless efforts of the hostage families, President Trump, and his administration, along with all who contributed to this important moment,” Schumer stated.
He further noted, “Today, we appreciate the joyful scenes of hostages reuniting with their families, while we also solemnly reaffirm our dedication to recovering all of the fallen hostages, including my friends Omer Neutra and Itai Chen.”
Joel Pollack, a senior editor at Breitbart News, noted that there were celebrations in Israel upon the announcement of the release of the remaining hostages held by Hamas, who were handed “to the Red Cross.”
“Trump will emerge as a winner, which isn’t shocking,” commented an analyst from Israeli Army Radio.
Two weeks ago, President Trump announced a deal at the White House, leading to Israel releasing 250 Palestinian prisoners, who were transported on buses awaiting the return of the Israeli hostages.
In Gaza, 20 hostages were released in batches and transferred to the Red Cross before being given to the Israel Defense Forces (IDF). The first seven arrived in Israel, with some managing to contact their families beforehand.
In response to a question from town hall reporter Katie Pavlich about what comes next after the last living hostage’s return, President Trump stated: explained that efforts to recover the deceased hostages would be made “in cooperation with Israel.”
“They’re searching for bodies, which is a pretty grim task,” Trump remarked.

Schumer’s praise for President Trump and his administration found resonance among other Democrats, including former President Bill Clinton. He stated that Trump, his administration, and Qatar, along with “other regional players,” are deserving of significant recognition for maintaining dialogue between Israel and Hamas until a peace agreement was established.
“We are thankful for the ceasefire, the return of the last 20 living hostages, and the much-needed aid now reaching Gaza,” Clinton remarked. “Credit goes to President Trump, his administration, Qatar, and others for keeping all parties engaged until an agreement was achieved.”
