Church Provides Supplies to Seniors During Winter Storms

Grace Point Church Supports Vulnerable Neighbors in Benton

Members of Grace Point Church in Benton, Arkansas, are stepping up to assist elderly and disabled neighbors as winter weather looms.

A team of volunteers visited 80 apartments at the Whispering Pines complex, aiming to show support and compassion. One volunteer, Larissa Colley, articulated their mission: “We went to areas of the community where we felt they needed love and that’s what we did today.” She planned to deliver essentials like bread, milk, butter, and eggs, noting a sense of urgency due to the impending weather.

The Weather Channel forecasts that temperatures in Benton could plummet to around 17 degrees, along with a mix of cold rain and sleet. Given this, ensuring that residents were prepared for the upcoming days became a priority.

Footage shared online captured volunteers organizing bags filled with supplies to distribute. In addition to food, they provided blankets, socks, and items to keep pets warm.

After completing their mission, volunteers and some residents gathered for a moment of prayer. Resident Lonnie Smith reflected on the experience, saying, “God is good. God is watching over you. I see how God has blessed me and has blessed me. God will bless you all too.”

In response to the storm, Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders announced the deployment of around 170 members of the Arkansas National Guard to assist residents. She emphasized the preparedness of the National Guard for such emergencies, expressing her gratitude for their support.

The governor has also declared a state of emergency given the circumstances. Colley shared how rewarding it is for volunteers to connect with the residents, stating, “It’s great to be able to respond to people’s needs, but just being able to touch their hands and their hearts and pray with them. Just… it means the world to us.”
