CIA Director Visits Venezuela

On Thursday, CIA Director John Ratcliffe was in Caracas, meeting with acting President Delcy Rodriguez and other officials, according to a U.S. source. This visit came about two weeks after the Trump administration initiated a military operation focusing on capturing Venezuelan leader Nicolas Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores.

Officials mentioned that Ratcliffe’s meeting with Rodriguez was directed by President Trump, aiming to express a desire for better collaboration between the two countries. Discussions reportedly centered on intelligence sharing, economic stability, and ensuring that Venezuela doesn’t serve as a “safe haven” for U.S. adversaries, particularly drug traffickers.

President Trump, speaking the day after the meeting, described his conversation with Rodriguez as productive, calling her an “amazing” person. He stated, “We are making great progress in supporting the stability and recovery of Venezuela.” It seems there’s some optimism here, I guess.

During the call, many topics were reviewed. They included oil, minerals, trade, and security matters. Trump expressed his belief that a partnership between the U.S. and Venezuela could be beneficial for both sides, hinting that Venezuela could soon be on the path to recovery and prosperity.

Furthermore, on the same day as the meeting, Rodriguez announced that her government would continue to release prisoners detained under Maduro’s regime, emphasizing what she characterized as a “new political moment” for the country.
