Pittsburgh Agency Promotes Civil Disobedience Class
A government agency in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, is advertising a class on “civil disobedience” that’s being organized by a local left-wing group via its social media channels.
On Saturday, the city’s Commission on Human Relations (CHR) shared a joint announcement about an upcoming event hosted by the Pittsburgh chapter of the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) and the 50501 Movement. The three-hour lecture is set for Tuesday evening and will feature an unidentified “experienced trainer” alongside civil rights attorney Mike Healy, as stated in the post.
This lecture is actually the second installment of a series titled “The Resurrection of Civil Disobedience,” which is sponsored by DSA and the 50501 Movement, both affiliated with the nonprofit Community Forge. Neither organization nor Healy responded to inquiries for comments.
According to DSA’s materials, “This session provides tactical training in the art of civil disobedience, grounded in real-world experience and historical context.” They noted that whether participants are new to this or looking to enhance their skills, the training aims to boost confidence and preparedness.
CHR characterizes itself on its website as a civil rights enforcement agency focused on investigating discrimination cases, assisting community members with their rights, and recommending essential protections to ensure equal opportunity in Pittsburgh.
The commission emphasized its mission to combat injustice and discrimination by fostering justice and understanding within Pittsburgh’s communities.
The announcement regarding Tuesday’s event indicates it will be streamed live on YouTube, although it points out that “viewers will not be visible in the video.”
“Train your spirit of civil disobedience,” reads the promotional material.
The 50501 Movement, established in 2025, emerged in response to the second Trump administration and identifies itself as a “peace movement” on its website.
