“I do not tolerate the actions demonstrated by Councillor Ash Shafi. The language he used is unacceptable to elected officials, and there is always a more constructive and appropriate way to express disagreements and communicate points for the audience and fellow members of the Council. It is inappropriate for civil servants.”
Regarding Ash-Shafii’s “White Nazi” statement, Wxyz said he was caught up in a police body cam video during a March 10 debate at the corner of Oakman Boulevard and Hamilton Avenue.
Police were in the area to ask bar employees about the child they found wandering nearby, Wxyz reported, and Ash-Shafii said he received a call to ensure that citizens were treated fairly.
Last week, Ash-Shafii defended his “white Nazi” comment to Wxyz, saying, “I will endure that statement.”
