City official boasts Los Angeles has largest illegal immigrant population, won’t collaborate with ICE

Los Angeles City Councilman Hugo Sotomartínez told CNN that the city is proud of the fact that it has the largest illegal immigrant population in the country. City won't help Deportation efforts by the incoming Trump administration.

CNN host John Berman Soto Martinez asked. If Los Angeles' new sanctuary policy is not in line with what Americans have voted for this election cycle since President-elect Donald Trump campaigned on the promise of mass deportation.

“We're fighting to build affordable housing. We're giving people options to get around the city, whether it's by bus or by bike. And we're fighting for the problems people have. And I think that's why our message is resonating here in Los Angeles, whereas the message from the Republican Party that you mentioned earlier is not.” replied Sotomartinez.

“Read about that and don't cross that line, because harboring and hiding illegal aliens from ICE is a felony.”

When Berman pressed council members again on the issue, Sotomartinez said he opposes deportations and believes detaining illegal immigrants is the right thing to do.

“And especially here in the City of Angels, we have some of the largest cities. We are a city of immigrants. We have the largest undocumented population. They drive our economy. And here in the City of Angels, we have some of the largest cities. We are a city of immigrants. We have the largest undocumented population. “Even in Los Angeles, I think our city is them.'The message is okay,” he said.

Sotomartinez acknowledged that the City Council will struggle because the Trump administration will have more authority and resources to carry out its operations.

“But what we want to say to you as City of Los Angeles employees is that the City of Los Angeles will not participate in any collaboration with ICE, and that as City employees we will do everything in our power to keep families together and protect people.” he explained.

The rise of Border Emperor Tom Homan revealed Democratic leaders who don't want to cooperate with federal officials should stay out of the way. He also warned against violating 8 U.S.C. § 1324.

“They need to educate themselves. They need to look at this. 8 U.S.C. § 1324. Read about it and don't cross that line. Don't cross that line,''' Homan warned this week.

Homan said sanctuary cities are only hurting themselves by not cooperating with the federal government. Refusing to cooperate would mean more federal agents would be spread out across jurisdictions, rather than staying primarily in local prisons.
