Trump Administration Accuses Clinton of Furniture Theft
The Trump administration has recently targeted former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, accusing her of taking furniture from the White House in 2001. This claim surfaced after she voiced her disapproval of President Donald Trump’s ongoing project to build a new ballroom at the White House.
White House Press Secretary Davis Engle made headlines by stating, “Hillary Clinton, a twisted former first lady and failed presidential candidate, stole furniture from the White House on her way out and was eventually forced to return it. Crooked Hillary is shameless and an utter disgrace.” He also added that President Trump’s efforts are restoring the White House to its original glory without costing taxpayers anything, a point he believes everyone should celebrate.
In early October, Clinton took to social media to rally opposition against Trump’s plan for the White House ballroom, a privately funded expansion designed to add significant entertainment space within the historic building.
Clinton Responds to Controversy
Clinton remarked, “This is not his home,” emphasizing that the White House belongs to the people and criticizing Trump’s plans as destructive. Her comments quickly drew attention, with conservatives referencing a past incident from 2001. At that time, Bill and Hillary Clinton faced backlash for removing items deemed White House property after leaving office. They later returned around $28,000 worth of furniture and paid $86,000 for other gifts given during their time in the White House. They maintained that everything was done with the proper approvals, citing a “catalogue error” for the mix-up.
After her comments, conservative critics resurfaced the 2001 controversy. Texas Senator Ted Cruz sarcastically noted, “At least he didn’t steal the silverware.” Meanwhile, social media influencer Benny Johnson reminded Clinton of the furniture controversy, questioning her credibility. Former White House officials expressed their perspectives, stating that Clinton would never have tarnished the image of the White House.
Fox News Digital attempted to contact Clinton’s office for further remarks regarding her opposition to the ballroom and the revival of the 2001 issue but did not receive a response.
Trump Moves Forward with Ballroom Plans
Amid the arguments, Trump announced the commencement of construction for the ballroom. He expressed excitement about breaking ground on the project, stating, “The East Wing, which is completely separate from the White House itself, has been completely modernized and will be more beautiful than ever.”
Trump underscored the historical significance of the ballroom, saying that for over 150 years, past presidents have envisioned such a space for important gatherings, and he is proud to bring it to life at zero cost to taxpayers. He described the project as being funded by “many generous patriots, great American businesses, and truly yours,” highlighting its expected longevity and usefulness for future generations.
