Clinton lauds Biden as modern-day George Washington and president who ‘healed our sick’ in DNC speech

Chicago – Former President Bill Clinton took to the stage at the Democratic National Convention on Wednesday night to praise President Biden as a modern-day George Washington who “healed our sick.”

“I want to say a word about President Biden,” Clinton said at the start of her speech in Chicago. “Remember, he made an incredible transition to become president. We were in the middle of a pandemic and an economic collapse. He healed the sick and got the rest of us back to work. And he strengthened alliances for peace and security, stood up for Ukraine and tried desperately to achieve a ceasefire in the Middle East.”

“And he did something that’s really hard for politicians to do: he gave up political power. George Washington knew that. And he did it. And he set the standard for us by serving two terms before it was mandated. That will bolster his legacy and enhance Joe Biden’s legacy,” Clinton added.

Biden appeared at the Democratic National Convention on Monday night, delivering a speech touting his accomplishments in office and praising Vice President Kamala Harris, who has risen to the top of the Democratic field after Biden dropped out of the race last month.

“Selecting Kamala was the first decision I made before I even became a nominee, and it’s been the best decision of my career,” Biden said.
