CNN data guru says Harris is ‘struggling among voters of color’ in the Sun Belt: ‘Really interesting’

CNN data expert Harry Enten said Monday that Vice President Kamala Harris is “struggling” to win over Black and Latino voters in the Sun Belt compared to former President Biden in the 2020 presidential election.

On “The Lead with Jake Tapper,” CNN's senior political data reporter said that according to the NYT/Siena poll,, Former President Trump holds slight leads over Harris in the Sun Belt states of Arizona, Georgia and North Carolina, two of which were won by Biden.

Additionally, Harris is lagging behind Biden in support among Hispanic and black voters in the region.

“I think that's really interesting,” Enten said, providing a breakdown of the three Sun Belt states' current support for Harris versus 2020 support for Biden.

FOX News Poll: Harris closes gap with Trump in Sun Belt states

CNN polling data expert Harry Enten said the results were surprising, not just in this election but also in comparison to the 2020 election.

“Hispanic voters, four years ago, Joe Biden got 66% of the vote in the Sun Belt,” he said. “Look at where we are now, Kamala Harris is only at 52%, Kamala Harris is struggling among Hispanic voters. Donald Trump is doing a lot better than he did four years ago.”

“What about black voters,” Enten continued, “Kamala Harris is leading by a large margin again, right? She's got 83% of the vote, well behind Joe Biden's 92%.”

“That means Kamala Harris is struggling among voters of color in the Sun Belt, which is much more diverse than the northern swing states around the Great Lakes,” he added.

Enten also highlighted that among Sun Belt voters, 31% are most concerned about the economy/inflation, 16% about immigration, and 16% about abortion. He noted that the first two of those issues are “great for Donald Trump.”

Tapper asked what would happen if Trump maintained his lead in the Sun Belt while Harris maintained her support in the less diverse, blue wall states in the North.

“Oh my gosh, look how close this race is. 276 electoral votes, Donald Trump's 262. You can lose North Carolina, Georgia and Arizona and still win the Great Lakes battleground states,” Enten responded. “But here's the bottom line, Mr. Tapper: Based on the polls I'm looking at right now, this race is just too close.”
