CNN host pushes back on Ben Carson saying Trump not ‘highly vindictive’

CNN's Abby Phillip fired back at Ben Carson, who served as Secretary of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) in the Trump administration, after claiming that the former president is not a “very vindictive person.”

Asked if he would support his former boss following in President Biden's footsteps if re-elected in November, Carson said he thought Trump would take a different path.

“In his speech yesterday or the day before yesterday, he took a more conciliatory tone, saying that the problems we face now are huge and we could spend a lot of time going after people. “We found that we recognized that we could also address those issues.'There are issues,” said Carson, who ran an unsuccessful presidential campaign against Trump in 2016. Said Philip.

“I think we've already seen that President Trump is not that vindictive in that he didn't go after Hillary after he was elected president in 2016,” he added.

The question came after the former president claimed in a post on Truth Social that Biden would not be safe unless he is granted presidential immunity in the election destruction scandal surrounding his alleged attempt to overturn the 2020 election. .

Following Mr. Carson's remarks, Mr. Philip further confronted Mr. Carson about Mr. Trump's words.

“He literally … promised to prosecute Joe Biden. He said he would. He said he would go after the people who wronged him,” she said.

Mr. Carson responded by saying that he has a tendency to “focus on what people do, not what they say, especially in heated political situations.”

The CNN host claimed that the former president, who is currently the Republican front-runner in the Republican race for the White House, “talks about revenge almost every day.”

“Shouldn't voters take that seriously? Shouldn't voters have to wait until he actually becomes president to find out if it's going to happen?” she asked.

In response, he implied that Trump is too busy to have “time for revenge.”

Carson endorsed the former president in October while on the campaign trail in Iowa.

The state held its caucuses on Monday, officially kicking off the race for the Republican presidential nomination. Trump easily charmed voters in the Granite State and won.

in recent interviews Carson, along with Fox News' Neil Cavuto, likened Trump to King David when asked how the former president would get over the bump in voters he may have lost due to his rhetoric.

“Well, you think about the Bible and you think about King David. Most of the people who were alive at that time say, 'Oh, what a terrible person…' God uses different people at different times.” ,” Carson said.

He went on to argue that the country needs someone with a “Manhattan business type personality” and someone who has dated wolves, but not necessarily a “good guy with a lot of flair.”

“That doesn't mean he can't be,” the former HUD secretary added. “I've seen him when he's not being attacked. He's a great guy and I think everyone loves him.”
