Colorado School Employee Charged with Sexual Abuse of Minor
A school employee in Colorado has been charged with multiple counts related to the sexual abuse of a 13-year-old student over several months, local authorities revealed last Tuesday.
The individual, identified as Brenda Meza, 34, worked for the Greeley-Evans School District 6, located about an hour north of Denver. Reports indicate she is currently on the run, with multiple felony charges pending against her.
Meza, who served as a secretary, coached the Franklin Middle School cross country team, and acted as an advisor for its game club, allegedly groomed the eighth-grader. This grooming included providing alcohol and drugs, sending inappropriate text messages, and arranging several meet-ups in places like parks and Walmart parking lots, as detailed in reports.
“The investigation revealed that Meza had engaged in ongoing sexual abuse of a minor over a period of several months,” stated the Greeley Police Department. “As a result of the investigation, Brenda Meza is currently wanted on multiple felonies.”
Authorities suspect that the boy’s girlfriend may have felt jealous of his interactions with female classmates, which reportedly led to the situation coming to light.
The exchanges between Meza and the boy began with sexual text messages in November, which included the boy sending at least four explicit images. The relationship reportedly escalated in January, culminating in a sexual encounter in the back of her car in a Walmart parking lot. She is also accused of providing marijuana edibles and alcohol during that meeting.
As the weeks progressed, they allegedly had two more similar encounters at local parks, with her reportedly dropping the boy off late in the evening afterward.
Investigators found that Meza had taken numerous photos of the boy engaged in consuming alcohol and using marijuana, as well as documenting their time spent together after school.
The police started their investigation on February 12 after receiving an anonymous tip about Meza’s actions. Following questioning by school officials, she reportedly confessed to her husband about her inappropriate relationship with the student.
A memo from Principal Suzette Laster indicated that Meza had been with the school since 2020, was placed on administrative leave, and was subsequently terminated by February 25. The principal emphasized that the safety and security of students is always a top priority for the district.
Authorities are looking to charge Meza with 12 felonies, which include child sexual assault, online enticement of a minor, and evidence tampering, in addition to one count of contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
Law enforcement is still searching for Meza, who reportedly left the scene during the investigation and is currently unaccounted for.
