Comedian Andrew Schultz said he thinks Donald Trump's podcast appearances helped him connect with voters and drive them to the polls.
Schultz sat down with co-host Akaash Singh on his podcast, Flagrant, and began discussing how mainstream media's reach is now limited.
“It was Kamala. [Harris] So bad that even with legacy media influence they couldn't get it [her] Over the hump? For example, Michelle [Obama] If it's running or Barack is running on legacy media in its current state, I think they might still be able to get away with it,” Schultz speculated.
Schultz also criticized traditional media for leading Americans to believe the presidential election was close “until election night.”
”[It’s] Legacy media is constantly pushing the narrative that not only is it close, but “she might be ahead!” Iowa is going to her. she's gonna turn everything upside down [swing states];That would be totally slanderous, wouldn't it? It's that legacy media imposes a narrative and people believe that narrative. ”
“It wasn't the free-form speech that we're used to.”
Schultz then detailed how Trump, like the popular podcast comedian, created an emotional connection with his audience and inspired them to root for him.
“If you look at the biggest touring stand-up comedians in the world, they all have podcasts where they have great communities and connections, and we talk to people every week,” Schulz said. outlined. “They know intimate details about our lives. What it proves to me is that people don't go out just because they're famous. In fact, it's the connections that make people go out. ”
Schulz's connection to the Americans was explained He felt that was not the case with Vice President Kamala Harris. She appeared on several podcasts that were more like “short and very contrived interviews.”
“It was very controlled. It was edited. It was completely different from the free-form speech that we are used to,” the comedian claimed.
President Trump appeared.”aromatic” podcast about a month before the election, as well as other podcasts by Joe Rogan and Theo Fung.
Harris’ biggest podcast appearance was “please call her dad”, a podcast that primarily focuses on orgies and college life. She then appeared on the podcast “Club Shay Shay” with former NFL player Shannon Sharpe. exterior However, it didn't even make it into the top 50 most-watched episodes of the show.
Schultz went on to point out that while podcasts are about bringing people together, legacy media is about selling “depression medicine” from sponsors.
The comedian added that “connections” drove voters to support Trump, and that people voted for President Biden in 2020 because they didn't have to leave their homes.
After Mr. Trump appeared on his podcast, Mr. Schultz had his performance at a large arena canceled, saying he was not “appropriate” for the venue.
At the same time, Trump's podcast circuit likely strengthened his standing among young men, with more people voting for him than in 2020. Trump won 56% of the 2024 vote among men ages 18 to 29.
