Comedian Shane Gillis says he has agreed to a marketing partnership with the Bud Light brand, which has been beset by transgender issues that have led to national boycotts.
“Excited to announce our partnership with Bud Light,” the comedian wrote on his Instagram social media accounts. He added a photo of himself wearing a Bud Light cap at a brewery.
Bud Light’s brand took a serious hit after transgender activist Dylan Mulvaney announced a partnership with the beer company for a March Madness marketing campaign in April 2023. Mulvaney unveiled a beer can design with the activist’s face on it, but the design was never sold to the public.
Critics quickly accused the brand of seeming to turn its back on the traditional demographic of Bud Light drinkers. Bud Light’s parent company, Anheuser-Busch, lost billions of dollars in market value and was dethroned as America’s most popular beer brand.
Some people defend Bud Light. Joe Rogan said on one of his podcasts that the company was just trying to expand its market audience, and UFC CEO Dana White said the company employs a lot of working-class people and does a lot of work. claimed to be doing so.good for usa
Gillis’ Instagram account has 1.2 million followers. Some Instagram followers praised the partnership, while others accused it of selling out to corporate interests.
The 36-year-old comedian faced politically correct cancellations himself. In 2019, he was selected as a cast member of “Saturday Night Live,” but was pressured to leave the show by an online campaign over culturally insensitive comments he made on his podcast.
“I am happy to apologize to anyone who was actually offended by what I said.” Said at that time. “My intention is never to hurt anyone, but I strive to be the best comedian I can be, and sometimes that comes with risks.”
