Comer to question blue state governors about sanctuary policies in important hearing

Comer Alerts Harvard University About Federal Funding Issues

Rep. James Comer is set to testify during an investigation concerning civil rights at Harvard. This is part of a larger context involving a Democrat facing restrictions on taxpayer funds for El Salvador and issues regarding the purchasing of U.S. farmland by China.

Three Democratic governors have been called to Washington, D.C., by a Republican-led House Oversight Committee to discuss their sanctuary policies. Chairman James Comer from Kentucky has scheduled the hearing for June 12th, where New York’s Kathy Hochul, Illinois’ J.B. Pritzker, and Minnesota’s Tim Walz are expected to present their cases.

Comer stated, “The Sanctuary policy essentially offers protection to individuals who have committed illegal acts. The Biden administration has, unfortunately, contributed to a significant border crisis, which has allowed—well, I think it’s fair to say—many unauthorized individuals into our local communities.”

The Republican stance is that while the Trump administration worked to deport individuals who committed crimes, states like Illinois, Minnesota, and New York are obstructing federal immigration law. Comer challenged the governors to clarify why they seem to prioritize safeguarding illegal immigrants over the welfare of American citizens, emphasizing the need for accountability.

This hearing is expected to be contentious since Hochul, Walz, and Pritzker have been criticized from the conservative side for their past policies. Notably, Walz, a former House member, reenters the political scene during a significant period, particularly after Kamala Harris’s unsuccessful bid as a vice-presidential candidate in the 2024 election.

Republicans have accused these governors of exacerbating the border crisis by resisting the stricter immigration policies introduced during the Trump era. Both Walz and Pritzker are also being viewed as potential contenders for the presidency in 2028.

The hearing follows a similar session where the House Oversight Committee heard from mayors like Michelle Wu from Boston and Eric Adams from New York. Comer had previously reached out to the three governors in April for insights regarding their sanctuary policies.

Fox News Digital has sought comments from the governors involved.
