Rep. Dan Meuser (R-Pa.) criticized Vice President Kamala Harris and CNN for not providing substantive answers about her policies in an interview on Thursday.
Appearing on “CNN This Morning,” Muether criticized the network for not pursuing Harris closely enough on key issues where she has wavered in recent years, saying she once again managed to avoid giving detailed answers to tough questions, leaving voters still uncertain about where she stands.
“I think the American people have a real sense of confidence in the vice president,” the congressman said.
NBC's Chuck Todd criticizes Kamala Harris for “mistake” in avoiding coverage: “Any missteps” will be “fully scrutinized.”

Muether first told CNN host Manu Raju that Harris felt “a disaster could have been avoided” during the interview, but that she had not been held sufficiently accountable by fellow host Dana Bash.
“And frankly, some of the follow-up questions, particularly around fracking, just weren't there. I'm not criticizing them.”
Harris' stance on fracking has come under scrutiny throughout the 2024 presidential campaign, as she supported a ban on fracking during her first presidential campaign in 2019 and has said she would not ban it if elected.
“I made it very clear in the 2020 debates that I would not ban fracking. I did not ban fracking as vice president and I have no intention of banning fracking as president,” Harris said in an interview on Thursday.
However, a recording of her 2020 vice presidential debate with former Vice President Mike Pence shows Harris saying, “Joe Biden is not going to end fracking. He's been very clear on that,” without making her intentions clear.
CNN fact-checker Daniel Dale criticized the vice president on the matter after the interview.

Muether also said that neither Harris nor the network has spoken enough about important issues such as U.S. energy and border security.
“Look, that's the biggest problem I think. There really wasn't any detail. They talked about energy for about 30 seconds, they talked about the border for about two and a half minutes, they talked about the economy for about two minutes.”
He added that Ms Harris had “clearly” been given an “image makeover” and that some saw “a big fraud being perpetrated”.
Raju then asked about Harris' lead in the Pennsylvania polls, to which Muether said that's only the reality because Harris “hasn't been interviewed,” except for her CNN interview.

Later in the segment, CNN host Michael Smerconish said Harris' interview added nothing new to the conversation.
“So I think the headline today is that there are no headlines. There really was no news about this event other than the fact that this event occurred after she had been running as the Democratic candidate for about a month.”
The host told Raju that Harris' interview had no obvious gaffes, which worked in her favor: “She achieved her objective, which is that neither of us are discussing the video that's now gone viral…There were no gaffes today that everyone is pointing out, so that's good for her.”
