A state-mandated tampon dispenser has been installed in the boys’ restroom at a high school in Connecticut. Much to the chagrin of menstrual equity advocates, feminine hygiene product dispensers have been taken down faster than your favorite TV sitcom. The menstrual product dispenser was vandalized within 20 minutes, leaving the principal feeling “disgusted”.
A tampon dispenser was installed in the boys’ bathroom at Brookfield High School around 9:30 a.m. last Wednesday. By 9:52 a.m., the feminine hygiene product dispenser had been taken down.
Brookfield High School Principal Mark Barranda told school staff and students: “A menstrual product dispenser has been installed in the boys’ restroom near (headquarters). The installation was completed by 9:30 a.m. by 9 p.m.” sent an email. At 52:00 a.m., tampons fell on the floor, and the newly installed power distribution box was torn off the wall along with its stone anchors, and the power distribution box itself was destroyed. ”
The outraged principal said the act was a “terrible example of vandalism and destruction of property”. He added that he was “disappointed” and “dismayed” that the tampon dispenser had been vandalized.

The menstrual product dispensers were installed as required by a relatively new Connecticut law. state:
Effective September 1, 2024, each local and regional school board shall provide free access to all girls’ restrooms, unisex restrooms, and at least one boys’ restroom available to students, as defined in Section 18-69e. shall provide menstrual products. from the third grade in each school under the jurisdiction of such board in accordance with guidelines established by the Surgeon General under Sections 19a-131l, in a manner that does not stigmatize students seeking such products. Intended for students up to her 12th grade.
The guidelines call on school districts to “accept donations of menstrual products and grants to purchase such products from all sources and partner with nonprofit and community-based organizations.”
