Conor Daly Involved in Crash at Portland Grand Prix

IndyCar driver Conor Daly faced a frightening crash during the Bitnile.com Grand Prix in Portland on Sunday. The incident occurred shortly after Daly had been in a heated battle with Christian Rasmussen in the early laps of the race.

On lap 13, the two collided, and when they met again on lap 15, it resulted in a significant crash for Daly. He ended up crashing into a safety barrier just a few feet away. Daly didn’t hold back in directing the blame toward Rasmussen.

“I saw him push Colton (Hertha) against the wall,” Daly recounted. “He was extremely slow, and I tried to get around him into turn 7. But when he got straight, he just slowed down—I ended up going past, yet he didn’t stop. It was a risky corner for such a maneuver.”

Rasmussen, on the other hand, disagreed with Daly’s assessment of the situation. He said, “I think it’s kind of expected if you try to position yourself outside.”

Daly, clearly frustrated, remarked, “I’m not sure if he expected me to yield. I was inside, not going to back out. Race Control seemed to agree with my take on it, so who knows.” He mentioned he’d refrain from adding anything further.

Interestingly, Rasmussen later acknowledged that his wheels did brush against Daly’s vehicle during the mishap. Before the day ended, Daly even took to social media, stating, “To intentionally crash someone at 150 mph is pure insanity. That’s not racing; it’s unacceptable. Driving standards need to be taken seriously—I’m talking to you (Rasmussen).”

In the end, Rasmussen finished the race in 12th place while Daly ended up in 26th.

Alex Pau managed to secure third place overall in the IndyCar Championship, while Will Power emerged as the race winner.
