Conor McGregor Suffers Injury at UFC 329
Conor McGregor shared a poignant post on X Saturday night, expressing his deep disappointment after suffering a severe knee injury during UFC 329 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
In his first official kick attempt of the match against Max Holloway, which marked his return to the UFC after a two-year hiatus, McGregor slipped, injuring his right leg and resulting in an early stoppage at just 69 seconds into the fight.
“My head gasket is gone. Destroyed. There were no injuries during the match. I was throwing, planting, and jumping kicks all the time, not only during camp, but also backstage before games. This came out of nowhere. I am beyond the darkness here. It can only be described as hell.”
In a series of posts early Sunday morning, McGregor conveyed his shock and hurt. He reflected, “I was devastated. I didn’t have any injuries during the game. I was throwing kicks, planting and jumping during camp and backstage before the game. This happened out of the blue.”
Despite the setback, McGregor remained resolute, vowing to return. “I can’t believe what happened because I was so sharp and ready for this fight,” he said. He expressed disbelief at his circumstances, mentioning that, “the devil is literally staring me right in the face here. I’m not involved. I’m going to church tomorrow.”
Shortly after the fight, McGregor left the arena barefoot and declined an interview request from Paramount Plus.
UFC president Dana White commented on the situation, suggesting that McGregor might have torn his anterior cruciate ligament. He also noted that initial reports confirm the injury occurred during the fight, not beforehand, countering some speculation circulating on social media.
McGregor, returning to the ring after five years, now faces uncertainty about when he will fight again following this injury.
