Conservative candidate resigns over Pride parade critiques

A conservative candidate in a very progressive region has decided to withdraw from the race after it emerged that he had made critical posts criticising the Pride parade just two years ago.

Damon Scrase, former Conservative candidate in British Columbia, Canada It was removed from the party’s website. He appeared to have voluntarily withdrawn from the race, Courtney – ComoxBritish Columbia.

The recently created district has seen just two provincial elections, both of which were won by representatives of Canada’s most left-leaning party, the NDP.

But it wasn’t an uphill battle that caused Scrace to withdraw his candidacy — rather, it was a change of heart after a radio host shared a post he made on X (then Twitter).

CKNW radio host Jas Johal took issue with at least four instances in which Scrace criticized the Pride Parade. In the first post, Scrace criticized indecent exposure.

“These parades gave degenerates tacit permission to break indecency laws, which nullified the Love Is Love movement for over a decade,” Scrase wrote. June 2022“Postmodernity and its [sic] Degenerate beliefs, exacerbated by social media, are a factory for mental illness.”

The second post in question is, July 2022“The issue with Pride was supposed to be about love, but that’s why it went mainstream. Since 2012 it has become a celebration of extreme sexuality, with phallic-themed food being sold on the streets and perverts exposing themselves to kids for their pleasure. It’s not going to last,” he said.

“I am withdrawing my candidacy… I have truly learned my lesson.”

Another post, less than a year old, is Scrase Refers to “Bad actors in the LGBTQIA+LMNOPQRSTUV community.”

A radio host also disagreed with Scrase. Share Post It showed nearly naked men wearing dog masks interacting with a little girl.

“You may witness man-made horrors beyond your comprehension,” the original post read.

Johar seemed to summarise this as a broad statement against “LGBTQ people”.

The former Conservative candidate released a statement withdrawing from future elections in the Conservative party, saying he had undergone “considerable education”.

“I’m a blue-collar guy and I’ve never aspired to be a public figure, much less a politician,” Scrace said. I have written About X.

“Like many of us, I made some cringey social media posts many years ago that do not reflect my current views or personality. I have recognized this and deleted the posts,” Scrase said of the posts made less than two years ago.

“I do not want to let my old, unfortunate comments distract from the important work currently being done to rebuild our great province. Therefore, I have notified the Conservative Party of BC that I will be stepping down as their candidate for the riding of Courtenay-Comox, effective immediately. I am eternally grateful to everyone who has supported me on this journey. I have learned so much. I leave with great hope, good spirits, deep humility and gratitude,” he added.

“Any candidate who caves to the woke mob is ineligible to run for any elected office.”

At the time of writing, neither the provincial nor federal Conservative parties had made any public statements regarding Scrase’s withdrawal. The BC Conservative Party did not immediately respond to a query from The Blaze News. This article will be updated with any relevant responses.

Kingsley WilsonThe actress, who first shared the photo of the men, who she identified as dogs, told Blaze News she was disappointed with how “conservatives” in Canada are embracing cancel culture.

“It’s a disgrace,” she said.

“Any candidate who succumbs to the woke mob and puts the feelings of sexual nutjobs and perverts above the interests of his or her people is unfit to run in any election,” the digital media strategist added.

Western Canadian journalist Mocha Bejirgan He explained that while it was reasonable for politicians to criticise or distance themselves from certain aspects of the Pride parade, it could be counterproductive to “convert into morally reprehensible behaviour”.

“Forcing a candidate to withdraw over past tweets demonstrates a party’s willingness to alienate certain segments of its voters over others. This decision shows a party prioritizing appeasing voters who would not support them anyway over upholding the moral standards of its core base,” Bezirgan continued.

“The Conservative Party of British Columbia has made a choice. Only time will tell the consequences of following this political philosophy,” he added.
