A man has been taken into custody on charges related to firearms and drugs as investigations continue into the deaths of several unidentified attendees at a festival.
Michael Olney was apprehended shortly after he was stopped for disregarding a vehicle permit during a fire incident at around 2 a.m. Monday, according to the Pershing County Sheriff’s Office.
In Olney’s vehicle, authorities found “a large quantity of various illegal substances” and two guns that he was not legally allowed to possess, given his history as a convicted felon.
While the sheriff’s office labeled Olney as “a convicted felon,” they did not offer further details about his past offenses.
Authorities suggested that Olney might have been planning to “sell or distribute” between 100 and 400 grams of drugs, judging by other items found in his car.
He faces multiple charges, including illegal firearm possession, the sale or transport of controlled substances, trafficking of over 100 grams of controlled substances, and possession of a dangerous weapon.
According to the sheriff’s office, he is being held on a bond of $92,500.
Meanwhile, search efforts were underway in Nevada as officials looked for suspects linked to the tragic death of another festival-goer, who was left to die in a pool of blood.
The deceased has not been identified but is described as a white male aged between 35 and 40, despite local authorities reaching out to the festival’s 70,000 participants for assistance.
The event concluded on Monday night, with attendees gradually leaving Black Rock City as it entered a post-festival phase.
Authorities have issued a call for public help in tracking down those responsible for what has been labeled a “heinous crime.”
Several individuals have already been arrested for drug-related offenses, particularly involving psychedelic substances.
The festival almost faced cancellation due to a sandstorm before it even began, and shortly afterward, severe weather affected iconic areas like the orgy dome.
In a somewhat miraculous turn of events, a woman who unexpectedly went into labor last Wednesday delivered a baby girl. The infant was born prematurely, weighing only three pounds, but is reported to be stable and will head home with her parents after her hospital stay.
