Coons dismisses Biden’s low approval numbers: Democrats have ‘consistently’ ‘overperformed’ polls

Sen. Chris Coons (D-Delaware) on Sunday dismissed the low approval ratings for President Biden and his policies, arguing that Democrats often “outperform” polls when it comes to actual elections.

Anchor Shannon Bream pointed. Recent Fox News Poll This shows that a majority of voters disapprove of the job Biden is doing and that his ratings on border security are abysmal. He said Biden is “behind the scenes” on a variety of issues, including the economy, China, inflation and the Israel-Hamas war.

Pressed on the findings, Coons told “Fox News Sunday” that “the first thing that matters is how people vote. And we, as Democrats, are very excited about the special that just happened on Long Island. We have consistently outperformed the polls, not just in the election and the 2022 midterm elections, but in election after election.”

Coons was referring to last month’s special election in New York’s 3rd Congressional District. In this election, Democrat Tom Suozzi defeated Republican Maji Pilip, filling the seat of former Congressman George Santos (R), who was subsequently expelled from the House in December. Various criminal charges and scathing ethics reports.

In the 2022 midterm elections, the Democratic Party overcame low expectations and was able to extend its majority in the Senate, as well as maintain and win many gubernatorial and state-level elections.

Coons also claimed that Trump’s performance was “poor” and that Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley won nearly 27% of the vote in Michigan, according to Decision Desk HQ, a partner at The Hill. He pointed out that he had acquired it. However, Trump still held a lead of more than 40 points in the Great Lakes state, with about 68% approval.

Trump has defeated Haley by wide margins in every state primary he has contested, but Haley has vowed to remain in the race at least through Super Tuesday.

“More than 20 percent of voters say they will never vote for former President Trump, whether in South Carolina, New Hampshire, or this upcoming Super Tuesday. 91 criminal convictions, partly due to his presidential campaign.” He pointed out Trump’s recent gaffes. where he got confused Former President Obama for Biden.

It wasn’t immediately clear which poll Mr. Coons was referring to, but a Bloomberg/Morning Consult poll released last month found: 53 percent of voters Key battleground states will refuse to vote for Trump if he is convicted of a criminal offense.President Trump faces 91 criminal charges, including indictments in four states: New York, Florida, Georgia, and Washington, D.C., as well as federal charges.

Mr. Bream pushed back on that claim, arguing that when people ask him about core policy issues, Mr. Trump is better able to handle things, especially on the border.

Coons responded by pointing to the failure of a bipartisan border security agreement that Senate Republicans defeated last month at President Trump’s direction.

“And, as we saw on two border trips this week, President Biden has asked former President Trump to stand with him and stop pursuing election issues and instead offer solutions to the American people.” Koons said. “Former President Trump convened his allies in the Senate and rejected a bipartisan bill because he wanted problems, not solutions.”

Trump and Biden remain tied in national polls, but the former president maintains a narrow lead over Biden by nearly 3 points, according to Decision Desk HQ and The Hill’s polling index.
