Cops rescue crying children trapped in a dangerously hot car for almost an hour, as seen in bodycam footage

Body camera footage released by Cobb County Police in Georgia earlier this week highlights a concerning incident from June 4, where children were found trapped in hot cars.

A caller, standing outside at Cumberland Mall, reported, “I have two kids in the car. The windows are cracked, but that doesn’t seem right. We just got out and we heard the kids crying.”

Thankfully, the police responded quickly, and the footage reveals an outside temperature of 87 degrees, while the car’s interior soared to a staggering 117 degrees.

The caller described the children as a “little girl” around one year old and a “little boy” who was about two.

As shown in the body cam video, an officer arrived shortly after 1 PM and decided to break a window to get to the children. “Broken!” one officer exclaims as the glass shatters.

Once inside, they could be heard reassuring the children. “Hey kids!” one officer said, trying to calm them.

As the officer freed the first child from the backseat, he remarked on how hot the child felt, saying, “Oh, you’re hot.” Soon after, both children were safely out of the vehicle.

Police later confirmed that an infrared thermometer indicated the temperature inside the car was indeed 117 degrees.

About half an hour following the rescue, officers arrested J’Quawn Dixon, who was charged with second-degree cruelty toward a child.

Dixon was booked into the Cobb County Jail with a bond set at $10,000 and released the following day.

Cobb County Police praised the vigilant citizens who reported the situation, stating, “Your quick action is why these kids are safe today. You saw something and did something, and it made all the difference.”

As of now, inquiries have been made to the Cobb County District Attorney’s Office regarding Dixon’s next court appearance, although the DA’s office noted that the case is still “under investigation.”
