Cory Booker Rejects Divine Assistance: 'What We Need Is Not from Above'

“There’s a storm brewing in our country,” said Sen. Cory Booker, D-N.J., emphasizing the need for infantry soldiers in a speech to Congress to combat “darkness and wind.” The Michigan Democratic Women’s Caucus Legacy Luncheon seems to indicate a lack of need for divine assistance.

During a recent address in Detroit, Booker sought to mobilize Democrats ahead of the midterm elections, cautioning that a significant “storm” is on the horizon.

“Ladies and gentlemen, there’s a storm approaching!” Booker exclaimed. “It’s dark and the winds are fierce! People are being hurt!”

“What we need is not from above!” he went on, gesturing towards the sky. “We need the foot soldiers of democracy willing to fight in court.”

“Stand for our democracy? Stand for votes? Stand for our children? Stand for our elders? And let’s do it together, standing strong. Be the hope that people require. We are the Democratic Party. It’s time for a new deal, it’s time to reclaim the American dream,” he added, closing with, “God bless you,” essentially suggesting he feels Democrats can manage without divine help.

Cory “Spartacus” Booker is still carving out his identity in the U.S. Senate, having run for president in 2020. He also set a record last year with a 25-hour, five-minute marathon speech in the Senate, which reportedly caused his spouse to worry for his safety.

“Standing for 25 hours is never safe,” said Alexis Booker, who married him last year, in a TikTok video. “It feels like your body could give out. And if you fall, that could be serious. Those thoughts were definitely in our minds.”

“Sure, I wanted him to break the record, but I didn’t want him to get hurt or worse,” she added.

“He’d go a long time without eating, and I was just concerned about his hydration,” she explained, mentioning that she and Booker’s mother were unable to attend, which led to anxious calls. “I was living in Los Angeles and getting ready to move to be with Cory, so I didn’t want to distract him, but I would send cute messages and doodle cartoons of myself,” she shared.

Interestingly, the Democratic National Convention had previously attempted to omit God from its platform.
