Jacob Tobey Fired Amid Cheating Allegations
Former Spurs broadcaster Jacob Tobey finds himself in a tough spot after being let go, allegedly due to an affair with the sister of one of the players. Colin Cowherd and his team have stepped in with commentary on the situation.
“I just learned something surprising: You can actually be fired for cheating on your girlfriend in America. I wasn’t aware that was even a thing. Yet, here we are, and it’s making headlines,” Cowherd noted on his show that focuses on scandals. He added, “In this country, infidelity can cost you your job. It’s a wild situation. Maybe he should get legal advice? Who knows.”
While Cowherd’s take covered some important points, he missed a crucial fact: the affair was reportedly with the sister of San Antonio player Lindy Waters III.
Accusations surfaced recently about Tobey cheating on his long-time girlfriend, Lauren Waters, with her sister. An Instagram Story he posted earlier this week showed Tobey dancing with Lauren, captioned: “This is my girlfriend of six years. But I cheated on her with Lauren Waters. If you think I’m a good guy, keep following me because I’m not. :)”
Another post featured a snapshot from a camera booth, showing Tobey and a woman recognized as Waters sharing a kiss, captioned, “Me and the new girl, LorenKWaters :)”
Now, both Tobey and Waters have set their Instagram accounts to private.
In a curious turn of events, a woman claiming to be Tobey’s ex-girlfriend mentioned that she discovered the alleged affair while spending time with Tobey’s family.
Reports emerged that Tobey would no longer be the team’s play-by-play announcer after two years in that role. It had been noted just a month before that he had signed a two-year contract with the organization.
Typically, Spurs games are broadcast on FanDuel Sports Network Southwest and CBS 5 locally, but there are indications that FanDuel won’t be the broadcaster for the upcoming season.
Before joining the Spurs, Tobey also worked with Fox Sports, 9NEWS in Denver, Pac-12 Network, Mountain West Conference, and NBA G League.
