Costco Expands Delivery Options for Bakery and Deli Items
Costco has started offering delivery for its popular sheet cakes and party platters, making it much more convenient for shoppers to get these customizable items.
Instacart, which is Costco’s main delivery partner, announced on Wednesday that customers can now order bakery and deli products through its marketplace and SameDay Costco, with customization available in advance for delivery.
Among the new items, shoppers can find the well-loved custom sheet cakes and 10-inch round cakes. There’s also the option to order sandwich platters, shrimp trays, and fruit platters.
This is a notable expansion of Costco’s online offerings, especially for these popular products that were previously not available for online ordering until February. This was when Costco phased out an older system that required customers to physically visit a warehouse and fill out paper forms.
“For nearly a decade, we’ve worked closely with Costco to enhance online shopping for their members, and this is another exciting progression in that partnership,” stated Ryan Hamburger, the chief commercial officer at Instacart.
“We’re thrilled to bring Costco’s popular made-to-order bakery and deli items to sameday.costco.com and the Instacart marketplace, marking the first time delivery has been available and providing members more options for significant celebrations,” he added.
Instacart mentions that shoppers can select from a variety of sizes, shapes, and flavors for their cakes based on the available catalog. They can also choose from preset designs and include a message of up to 30 characters in a color they prefer.
This announcement on Wednesday further builds on the ongoing partnership between Instacart and Costco, which started in 2017 with the introduction of same-day delivery.
Since then, both companies have broadened their collaboration to incorporate Costco’s same-day e-commerce sites.
Costco has not yet responded to requests for comments regarding this latest development.
