A California couple is suing JetBlue, alleging a huge chunk of ice from an airliner crashed through the ceiling of their bedroom.
In a complaint filed earlier this month, Michael Reese and Leah Ferrarini say a watermelon-sized chunk of ice was found on the roof of their home “right above their bed” just after 8 p.m. last January. He said it fell.
The couple claimed that frozen debris fell from a JetBlue Airbus A321 that was flying over their home in Inglewood on its way from Los Angeles to New York.
JetBlue did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
The plaintiffs accuse JetBlue of negligence and trespass for operating the dangerous plane because the couple “failed to give JetBlue permission to allow large blocks of ice to enter or cause damage to their home.” I am doing it.
Police and firefighters were called to the home after the incident, and the Federal Aviation Administration began an investigation, according to the complaint.
The California couple claimed that they are currently suffering from insomnia and are unable to sleep well.
The suit states that Reese and Ferrarini “no longer feel safe in their dream home and are considering moving out of it.”
They are seeking $300,000 for emotional distress. $300,000 for pain, suffering and inconvenience. The suit says he was paid $40,000 in medical bills and $360,000 in property damage.
An investigation revealed the plane had had water problems for six months, the complaint said.
The same A321 is also suspected of dropping ice on a home in Massachusetts in August 2023, the complaint added.

According to the lawsuit, an inspection of the plane's water supply system about a week after the accident in California revealed that the valve flange (a flat part that connects the valve and pipe) was misaligned, causing a leak. It turned out that this was the case.
JetBlue denied liability in court filings and said its actions were in accordance with industry standards and regulations. They asked the court to award attorney's fees for the costs of the case.
