SAN ANTONIO, Texas — Federal Judge Orders Family Release
A federal judge has mandated the release of six relatives of Mohamed Sabri Soliman, an Egyptian national who is facing 184 criminal charges tied to a bomb attack that resulted in one death in Boulder, Colorado. U.S. District Judge Fred Beery’s decision requires ICE to free the family, who has been held in Dilley, Texas, since June 2025.
The family includes Hayam Salah Alsayd Ahmed El Gamal (41), Soliman’s wife, along with two sons and three daughters, all also Egyptian nationals. They initially arrived in the U.S. in August 2022. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) noted that Soliman received asylum until February 26, 2023, after applying in Denver, listing his family as dependents.
The White House had previously indicated on social media that the family’s release would happen quickly. A post simply stated, “6 one-way tickets for Mohammed’s wife and 5 children. Final boarding call coming soon.”
DHS clarified that Soliman entered the U.S. on a valid visa during the Biden administration but later overstayed and violated the conditions of his entry. Following his arrest for violently attacking protesters during solidarity marches for Israeli hostages held by Hamas, the family was initially detained for possible deportation.
Witnesses reported that during the attack, Soliman used homemade flamethrowers and incendiary devices, shouting “Liberate Palestine.” Eight individuals were injured, and one later died as a result of injuries sustained during the incident. Soliman has pleaded not guilty to the numerous charges against him.
On Monday, Judge Bailly upheld a previous ruling from U.S. Magistrate Judge Elizabeth Chesney, which favored a habeas corpus petition filed for Hayam El Gamal. The ruling highlighted that the family’s detention was unconstitutional.
In a social media post, the family’s attorney, Eric Lee, stated, “A federal court today ordered the release of the El Gamal family. They remain in custody. Release the El Gamal family immediately!”
Reports from June 2025 revealed that Soliman had declared “Allah is greater” than the United States and its military in a manifesto discovered after the attack.
In a video, Soliman asserted, “Allah is greater than all. Allah is greater than the Zionists… and other worldly powers.” He went on to express concerns about why people fear earthly authorities more than divine power.
