Court Orders Starbucks to Pay $50 Million to Man Scorched by Beverages

The court ordered Starbucks on Friday to pay $50 million in damages to a spilled drink, a delivery driver who was badly burned by CNN. It has been reported.

The California ju umpire was on Michael Garcia's side. Michael Garcia was picking up a drink at a drive-thru in Los Angeles. According to a lawsuit filed in California Superior Court in 2020, he “stricken with severe burns, appearance and debilitating nerve damage when the hot drink finally spills over it.”

The lawsuit ultimately accused the coffee chain of violating its duty of care by not securing a lid, according to the report.

“Garcia's damage includes physical pain, mental anguish, loss of enjoyment in life, humiliation, inconvenience, sadness, appearance, physical disability, anxiety and emotional distress.

Starbucks said they “sympathize with Mr Garcia,” but they said “they're saying they're “We oppose the Ju Court's decision that we were responsible for this case and believe that the damages given are excessive. ”

“We have always been committed to the highest safety standards in our stores, including handling hot drinks,” a company spokesman said.

The case resembles the infamous 1994 lawsuit against McDonald's. The woman spilled hot coffee on her lap, ending with a third burn. The woman in that case was originally awarded about $3 million, the report said.
