Critics of Israel Attempt to Take Over a Holocaust Museum for Gaza 'Genocide'

Protests Planned in South Africa Linking Gaza Conflict to Genocide

Activists in South Africa are organizing demonstrations at the Holocaust and Genocide Center in Johannesburg, pushing for the ongoing conflict in Gaza to be characterized as a genocide similar to the Holocaust. These protests are set for Monday and Friday, where the groups aim to persuade the museum to adopt a boycott, divestment, and sanctions (BDS) policy.

The Palestine Solidarity Campaign (PSC) in Gauteng shared an advertisement calling out the museum for what they perceive as genocide denial. They argue that the center’s silence on the situation in Gaza contributes to this denial.

In their joint Instagram post, the PSC, along with South African Jews for a Free Palestine and other allied groups, stated, “The Johannesburg Holocaust and Genocide Center’s silence about the genocide being perpetrated against Palestinians is an injustice and an insult to all victims of genocide.”

However, the situation differs significantly from the Holocaust, where Nazi Germany aimed for the complete eradication of the Jewish people. In contrast, Israel’s military actions in Gaza are framed by officials as acts of self-defense against Hamas terrorists, who are accused of harboring genocidal intentions.

Experts, like military analyst John Spencer, emphasize that Israel does not possess any genocidal aims. After the cessation of hostilities and the return of hostages, Spencer noted a palpable relief that contradicted claims of a genocidal agenda.

Following the ceasefire earlier this month, some pro-Palestinian activists controversially referred to individuals in Gaza as “Holocaust survivors,” a comparison that triggered both outrage and mockery.

Moreover, South Africa has lodged accusations of “genocide” against Israel at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) and shows no sign of rescinding these claims, even with the conflict’s conclusion.
