A suspect with a felony warrant spent around an hour and a half in the Pacific Ocean near Will Rogers State Beach before being apprehended by Los Angeles County lifeguards who surrounded him. The situation developed when he attempted to evade authorities in the water.
Meanwhile, in Florida, sheriff’s deputies arrested a group of individuals at Port Canaveral, where they encountered six people with outstanding warrants and allegations of violating probation terms. Sheriff Wayne Ivey humorously noted the chaos surrounding one of the world’s busiest cruise ports.
Among those arrested was 24-year-old Martel Murray from Georgia. He faced an out-of-state warrant related to alleged violations tied to a pending murder case, though the specifics regarding the victim or the jurisdiction were not disclosed.
Interestingly, Ivey mentioned that Murray’s downfall coincided with his companion, Kenderia Barney, also 24, who was wanted for a probation violation. “Well, at least they get to share their holiday, albeit in separate accommodations,” he quipped.
Both were booked at Brevard County Jail on July 17 and remained without bail as of the latest updates. The apprehensions didn’t stop there — 38-year-old Veronica Hamlett from Tampa was nabbed for failing to appear in court but was released the following day after posting bail.
Additionally, 66-year-old James Osa Bruton from South Carolina was taken in for a probation violation but was released after paying a portion of his bail. Ivey later remarked that it’s been “smooth sailing” since then.
As for two other cruise passengers who were stopped upon their return, they were suspected of breaching their probation by traveling abroad without proper permission. Once again, the authorities emphasized that anyone breaking laws, whether from Florida or afar, could expect to be held accountable.
