Cruz: The Same Democrats Running on Gas Prices 'Claimed They Wanted $10-a-Gallon Gas'

Cruz Highlights Democratic Contradictions on Gas Prices

During a recent segment on Fox News Channel’s “Hannity,” Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) pointed out the irony in how Democrats, who previously advocated for higher gas prices, are now criticizing Republicans over the same issue.

“I want to add one thing — and if you’re frustrated about high gas prices, consider this: if radical Democratic socialists gain control with their Green New Deal and proposed government programs, what will that cost you?” host Sean Hannity remarked. “I’ve seen estimates around $212 trillion.”

Cruz responded by discussing the potential dangers associated with a nuclear-armed Iran. He expressed concern that the ayatollah could use such weapons against American cities, which President Trump acknowledges as a serious threat. According to Cruz, the current military engagement in Iran mainly involves an economic blockade aimed at weakening the regime. Regarding gasoline prices, he noted that while people are justifiably upset, context is essential. Under Biden’s presidency, gas prices surged to $5 a gallon, while Trump saw a drop to around $3. Currently, the national average sits at approximately $4 a gallon.

“So, prices are still lower than they were under Biden, yet they haven’t reached the lows of Trump’s first year in office,” he said. “And let’s not forget that the Democrats — the ones campaigning now — are actually in favor of higher gas prices. They’ve openly expressed desires for $10-a-gallon gas. Look at Texas’ James Talarico, who wants to see the end of oil and gas, akin to the decline of cassette tapes—he aims to dismantle capitalism. On a brighter note, let me share some statistics: we currently have the highest median family income on record, alongside the lowest poverty rates ever documented. The mainstream media tends to ignore these facts, but they’re very real. I think this presents a strong argument for the American public.”
