Current updates: Trump reaches Saudi Arabia while the House discusses Medicaid and tax legislation.

President Trump has arrived in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, kicking off his Middle East tour, which will also include stops in the United Arab Emirates and Qatar.

This marks Trump’s first significant foreign trip during his second term. On Tuesday, his schedule features an official state visit, a state dinner, and attendance at the Saudi investment forum.

While Trump’s trip is expected to emphasize financial investment and trade, it’s somewhat overshadowed by the controversy surrounding the luxurious Qatar jets that will serve as the new air force for the U.S.

In Congress, House Republicans have taken steps this week towards advancing two of the most contentious initiatives central to Trump’s agenda.

On Tuesday, the House Energy and Commerce Committee, alongside the House Ways and Means Committee, will convene to discuss significant cuts to Medicaid and an extension of the GOP’s 2017 tax cuts.

This markup is anticipated to reveal deep divisions within the Republican Congress, particularly among conservatives, who may delay the rollout of Trump’s major domestic policies.
