Dallas mayor raises concern about political violence following ICE gunman incident

Mayor Warns of Rising Political Violence in the U.S.

Dallas Mayor Eric Johnson expressed concern about an increasing acceptance of political violence in the United States. He highlighted recent attacks on U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) facilities, suggesting that unless changes are made, such incidents will continue.

During an appearance on “American Newsroom” Thursday, the Democratic mayor criticized the rhetoric used by leaders in his party, claiming it has contributed to a hostile environment towards law enforcement. He suggested that some Democratic figures have attempted to curry favor with activists by framing police officers in a negative light.

There has been a pattern of similar rhetoric to assuage pro-immigration activists, particularly against ICE, since President Donald Trump’s second term began.

“We see an increase in the tolerance for political violence as a means of enacting policy changes, especially on the left,” Johnson told Bill Hemmer of Fox News.

Johnson’s remarks came shortly after an incident where a gunman, identified as Joshua Yarn, reportedly opened fire at an ICE facility in Dallas before taking his own life.

“I think the events—especially the fervor surrounding them—have unfortunately led to incidents like the one we witnessed yesterday. If we don’t address this, it’s hard to say it won’t happen again,” he stated.

The shooting involved one fatality and two injuries, occurring near Alvarado, Texas, where the gunman targeted an ICE officer.

This violence unfolds amid heightened political tensions nationwide. Several Democratic leaders, including California Governor Gavin Newsom, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, and Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass, have openly criticized the Trump administration’s immigration policies, claiming the agency engages in unethical practices.

Johnson implored local and federal leaders to confront this hostile rhetoric to prevent further loss of life.
