Former NFL first-round draft pick Damon Arnette was reportedly arrested in Texas last month on methamphetamine and gun charges.

The arrest occurred on Jan. 6 in Richardson, Texas, and he was charged with possession of less than 1 gram of methamphetamine and unlawful possession of a handgun, NFL Network reported on Monday.

Arnett’s attorney disputed the nature of the arrest.

“Mr. Arnett’s legal advisors have stated that recent reports that he was arrested for possession of methamphetamine and firearms are completely false,” his lawyer said in a statement. “Our client failed to provide law enforcement with a legal prescription for medication at the time of the traffic stop.

“The arrest was based on Mr. Arnett’s inability to search for prescribed drugs, and had he been able to do so at the time of the stop, he would not have been arrested for either the controlled substance or the firearm.”

The statement added that Arnett’s legal team is working with authorities to rectify the situation.

The Las Vegas Raiders selected the former Ohio State standout with the 19th overall pick in 2020. However, Arnette was released in 2021 after 13 career games after a video posted on social media showed him making threats and brandishing a firearm.
