Dana White says walkout from Howie Mandel podcast was staged

UFC president Dana White made headlines after he was seen walking off the set of a podcast, but he clarified that the moment was staged and that he had discussed it with the host beforehand.

White appeared on legendary comedian Howie Mandel’s podcast in February 2024, and after Mandel praised the fight promoter, White announced he was quitting the podcast. Out of frame Just 30 seconds later.

“Thank you so much for all the kind words. I appreciate it,” White said. “I’m tired of doing the podcast. I’m really done. I’m not doing the podcast anymore,” he said, before walking away.

However, a few months later, White revealed that the incident occurred during a promotional appearance and that the walkout had been engineered in response to a broken promise to Mandel.

The UFC president said he was approached by Mandel following his much-talked-about appearance on “The Sage Steele Show.”

“Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, time out, I can’t do this anymore. Howie Mandel is the greatest man of all time. Sorry Howie.”

“She’s signed with Bill Maher’s podcast company and it’s all done in Howie Mandel’s studio,” White told comedians Andrew Schultz and Akash Singh.terrible“Podcast.”

“So when the podcast finished, Howie Mandel came up to me and was like, ‘There are 100 podcasts out there a week. I’ve never seen any of them. I’ve seen them all. I love who you are and what you stand for,’ or something like that. So we hit it off and we started talking. Great guy,” White continued.

“He was like, ‘Let me show you around the studio.’ He’s involved in so much stuff,” White said of Mandel. “He owns social media companies and so much more. Howie Mandel owns so much stuff that people don’t realize. He’s a smart guy, he’s amazing. So we were walking around the studio and he was like, ‘Can I do you a favor?’ And I was like, ‘Yeah, what’s up?’ And he was like, ‘Come on, stand up and quit my podcast.’ And I was like, ‘I’d be so honored if I could quit your podcast. I’m so sick of doing podcasts. It’s not even funny.'”

White added that the timing was perfect because he was really tired of doing a podcast.

“So we went in there and did it. He said, ‘Take this to your grave.’ I said, ‘I did it, I’ll take it to my grave.'”

Unfortunately, White couldn’t keep the secret, but that was his good nature. He was on a promotional tour with pranksters and entrepreneurs called the Nerk Boys when a crowd of young people started chanting “Fuck Howie Mandel!” over and over again, White said. White said he couldn’t allow fans to continue to think badly of Mandel.

“I’m like, ‘Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, time out, I can’t do this,'” White recalled. “Howie Mandel is the greatest guy ever. Sorry, Howie. I go out and people start trashing on him. I’m sure he wouldn’t mind, but I can’t. So Howie Mandel is the greatest.”

White broke that promise, then quickly promised it again before the end of the “Fragrant” podcast. White said he swore he’d never do stand-up again after appearing and telling jokes at the Tom Brady roast.
