Disturbing allegations against dance instructors in Hanahan, South Carolina have come to light.
The individual in question is 45-year-old Andrea Misell, who was taken into custody by police in June, as reported on Wednesday.
Authorities were contacted in March after a report concerning a conversation at a dance studio on Carolyn Street. Parents later indicated that the issues stemmed from dance routines they felt were “in conflict with their morals.”
Misell is said to have interacted with one of the parents before others arrived at the studio. She reportedly left but returned later, stating she had fled out of fear.
What appears to be the “Happy Feet Dance Studio,” where the allegations arose:
The article elaborated:
Law enforcement spoke with parents and children. Some parents accused Misell of suggesting that children who were uncomfortable with the dance would not be allowed to continue, despite prepaid classes. They claimed she had no intention of providing refunds, which is why they gathered to confront her. They denied any intimidation efforts.
Multiple children alleged that Misell provided them with alcohol at her home, engaged them in inappropriate discussions, and even showed them explicit photos.
Moreover, she is accused of inappropriate touching during practice, with one student alleging she placed her hands on private areas at a moment unrelated to dancing.
Additionally, Misell reportedly discussed her personal life inappropriately, even while entangled in Christmas lights, and showed explicit images.
Authorities have charged her with multiple counts, including several forms of assault and contributing to the delinquency of minors.
This case highlights ongoing concerns regarding teachers and instructors. In 2021, another South Carolina teacher was accused of keeping marijuana edibles in a student reward box, and the following year, a different teacher faced allegations of making threats against a journalist.
