Darline Graham is thinking about running for a full Senate term, according to a report.

Darline Graham takes oath as South Carolina's first female senator

Darling Graham is reportedly considering a full Senate term after the announcement of a memorial service for her late brother, Lindsey Graham. Three individuals familiar with the situation informed the Associated Press that Darling has started discussions about a potential campaign. She was appointed by South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster on Monday to complete her brother’s term and was sworn in the following day.

The nomination period for the special primary will run from July 21 to July 28, with the primary taking place on August 11. Other prominent figures, like Congressman Russell Frey, Nancy Mace, Ralph Norman, and Lieutenant Governor Pamela Evette, are also eyeing the race.

In a notable development, Darling Graham becomes South Carolina’s first female senator and the first sister of a senator to hold that position. Meanwhile, Lindsey Graham’s communications director announced that events honoring the late senator’s life will occur in Washington, D.C., on July 28, followed by ceremonies in Columbia and Pickens County, South Carolina, on July 29.

“Lindsey has always been there for me, and I pledge to be there for him,” Darling mentioned during her inauguration. “My brother was an extraordinary leader and a truly great person.” She is anticipated to serve as a caretaker for her brother’s seat until January.

Lindsey Graham sadly passed away at 71, and his cause of death has been attributed to an aortic dissection resulting from cardiovascular disease, according to a preliminary report from the Chief Medical Examiner’s office.
