Dave Coulier Shares His Cancer Journey
Dave Coulier, known for his role in “Full House,” believes that early detection of cancer has been crucial in saving his life on two occasions. The actor recently spoke about how regular check-ups allowed doctors to catch his secondary cancers quickly, calling this experience life-changing.
On Wednesday, Coulier announced that he is now in complete remission after facing two cancer diagnoses within two years. In discussing his new venture, AWEAR Market, the 66-year-old emphasized the importance of paying attention to subtle changes in one’s body during health battles. He recalled recognizing warning signs that he might have otherwise overlooked, urging others to avoid the same mistake.
“Listen to your body. It will tell you what’s happening,” Coulier remarked. “I wasn’t feeling well, and one morning in the shower, I found a lump in my groin. Initially, I thought, ‘It might just be a cold or something,’ but my wife, Melissa, urged me to call my doctor. We caught it early.” He reflected on how procrastination in seeking help can lead to severe consequences, illustrating how cancer can develop silently over time.
After being diagnosed with HPV-related oropharyngeal tongue cancer in October 2025, just months after a recovery from non-Hodgkin lymphoma, Coulier had to confront the harsh realities of illness more than once. During a routine check-up, a PET scan revealed an enlarged tumor, prompting further investigation which showed unrelated tumors.
Following 35 rounds of radiation therapy and painful robotic surgery on his tongue, Coulier is finally on the path to recovery. “Being in remission feels like such a relief,” he expressed, describing the toll battling two cancers has taken on him physically and emotionally. He noted that it’s a fight on multiple fronts, and he wasn’t willing to allow cancer to rob him of his life.
In light of his experiences, Coulier has become an advocate for early detection, stressing that recognizing the signs of cancer can prevent a more arduous struggle later. “Catching my second cancer early helped me avoid a world of hurt,” he mentioned, underscoring the significance of taking health signals seriously.
While he admits he never intended to be a “poster boy for cancer,” Coulier embraces his role as a supporter of awareness initiatives. He encourages people to seek out early detection methods such as colonoscopies, prostate exams, and mammograms, emphasizing that “this is a disease no one should have to endure.” Early detection can indeed save lives, he insists.
Coulier’s new venture, AWEAR Market, arose during his research into health issues related to the lymphatic system. He began to scrutinize the products he used daily and discovered many contained harmful substances. This realization has driven him to become a “professional label reader,” as he found toxic chemicals in common items like toothpaste and skincare products.
Despite the outward progress in his new business, Coulier candidly shared the hardships that accompanied his cancer treatment. He often felt pressured to maintain a positive façade, even during days when he could hardly get out of bed, and didn’t want to be a burden to his wife.
“Facing such challenges highlights the importance of loved ones,” he reflected. “Melissa has been incredible, supporting me at every turn. I had to allow myself to be vulnerable, which is tough, especially for men who often feel the need to be strong for their families.” Navigating this journey has pushed him to balance vulnerability with the will to fight back against his illness.
