Dave Matthews Criticizes ICE at Concert, Remembers Victim
During a concert on Friday, Dave Matthews, the frontman of the Dave Matthews Band, expressed his disdain for Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents, calling them “f**kers.” He voiced his confusion over the violence and animosity present in society, questioning why people feel compelled to harm one another.
Matthews elaborated on his feelings, remarking, “We tell our children—grow up, learn to use your words. But why are we so lost? Perhaps we’ve always been this way, just better at finding ways to justify our actions.” He then noted a young man, who had been killed by ICE in Houston, to which he referred with deep sorrow. “They shot him, and he wasn’t even the one they were after. So, why pull the trigger?”
He extended his condolences, saying, “I hope my words don’t offend those who loved him, but honestly, I’m the one who feels offended. This is for Lorenzo Salgado Araujo, taken from us just days ago.”
Reports indicate that Araujo, an undocumented immigrant, was shot while allegedly trying to hit a U.S. ICE officer during a traffic stop. According to ICE, the officer acted in self-defense during the incident.
This isn’t Matthews’ first instance of openly sharing his views on ICE. Following the death of activist Renee Good during a confrontation with ICE in Minneapolis earlier this year, he expressed his opposition to the agency, emphasizing, “I don’t want my taxes funding an operation that terrorizes communities.” He criticized the treatment of individuals by ICE and called for a compassionate approach in helping those in need.
Fox News Digital has reached out to ICE for further comments but is yet to receive a response.
