Tragic Death of South African Woman on Superyacht
Authorities in the Bahamas are investigating the death of a 20-year-old South African woman, Page Bell, who was found dead just days before her 21st birthday. She was discovered in the engine compartment of a superyacht, which was docked near Harbour Island.
Bell, originally from Johannesburg, was identified as a crew member working on the luxurious vessel when police responded to reports of an incident on July 3. They arrived shortly after 1 PM and found her unresponsive, showing visible injuries. Additionally, a man, later identified as a possible suspect, was found with serious injuries to his arm.
The Royal Bahamas Police issued a statement confirming their investigation into allegations of murder and attempted suicide linked to the circumstances surrounding Bell’s death.
The suspect was later identified as Bridgedo Munoz, a 39-year-old male from Mexico. He was arrested while receiving treatment for his wounds and initially suspected of attempting to take his own life. Munoz has since been charged with murder.
Reports indicate that Bell had sustained considerable injuries, including a wound to her neck, and was found partially undressed, suggesting the possibility of a sexual assault. Defensive wounds on her arm hinted that she may have fought back against her attacker.
Following the incident, Bell’s family expressed their devastation on social media, mourning the loss of their beloved daughter. They shared their heartbreak, saying, “Our beautiful Paige’s life was cruelly taken from us.” Her family plans to seek justice for her death, and they announced their intent to travel to the Bahamas to arrange for her return home.
Meanwhile, Bell’s friends and colleagues have launched a crowdfunding campaign to support her family during this difficult time, raising over $56,000. They highlighted her vibrant spirit and the positive impact she had on those around her, mentioning that she was excitedly looking forward to her upcoming birthday.
In a heartwarming tribute, Bell’s mother encouraged supporters to enjoy her favorite red velvet cake to honor her birthday on July 14.
