Buffaloes Struggle Again as Coach Sanders Faces Pressure
Deion Sanders acknowledged earlier this week that the Colorado Buffaloes had to shake off their significant defeat against the Utah Utes. However, following Saturday night’s game, the pressure on the Pro Football Hall of Famer only intensified.
The Arizona Wildcats triumphed over Colorado with a score of 52-17, marking yet another painful loss for Coach Sanders. The Buffaloes had a promising lead at halftime, with a 38-7 advantage, but fell apart, committing five turnovers and racking up 14 penalties during the course of the game.
After the game, Coach Sanders decided not to let his players face the media, feeling that the weight of the loss was entirely on him. He urged anyone with concerns to come directly to him rather than criticizing his players, stating, “Don’t attack the coordinator. Come to me. Don’t attack the players. Come to me.”
When confronted about his team’s disappointing performance, Sanders didn’t provide clear answers and dismissed speculation regarding whether his players had mentally checked out during the match. He commented on the visible lack of effort, expressing, “You see people quit. I’ve never seen anything like that.” Despite the ongoing struggles, he remained confident in his ability to turn the team’s fortunes around.
During the game, Colorado’s quarterback Kaidon Salter was replaced by Ryan Staub before the end of the first half. Staub later found himself benched as freshman JuJu Lewis got a chance to play, throwing a 59-yard touchdown pass to Omarion Miller before suffering an injury.
The Buffaloes’ defense, however, was unable to effectively contain Arizona’s quarterback Noah Fifita, who managed to throw four touchdown passes throughout the match.
With this defeat, Colorado’s record now stands at 3-6 for the season, while Arizona improved to 5-3.
