Washington:
The recent Delta Line flight from Atlanta in the US to Chicago has become a nightmare for passengers after the plane’s ceiling threatened to collapse during flight. Video footage of the incident has been shared on social media, hanging as several passengers support it with their hands to prevent it from falling completely.
Later images from the aircraft showed the ceiling was locked in its original position with a strip of neon yellow tape while the flight returned to Atlanta following the weather disaster.
No injuries were reported in the April 14 incident. After the ceiling entered the cave, the plane was returned to its departure point in Atlanta, where passengers were moved to another plane that flew to its Chicago destination.
In a statement to the New York Post, Delta apologised to its customers for their patience and cooperation and apologised for their delay in their trip.
The airline said the Boeing 717 “The panel was later stuck in place so that the customer does not have to manually hold it during flight,” adding that the incident was “no injuries” and that “the flight continued about two hours late on another aircraft.”
Content creator Lucas Michael Payne first posted about the incident on Instagram, so Delta provided 10,000 air miles to affected passengers.
Tom Witchy, a 35-year-old Chicago resident who was on the plane at the time of the incident, told People magazine that a loud slap sound came right after takeoff, causing panels on the plane’s roof to fall and crashed. He said the panel appears to be hanging solely from the right corner of the front.
“We’re still rising so we grabbed the corner closest to me to prevent us from colliding with our line. The flight crew was sitting for the ascent at the time of the incident and could not support us.
Witschy said passengers were forced to hold the roof panels for about 30-45 minutes before the flight attendants corrected them with tape and improved the situation somewhat.
