Dem Senators Storm Out of Meeting to Protest Trump Judicial Nominee Vote

On Thursday, a Democratic senator emerged from a meeting to support the nomination of Emil Bove, an attorney from the Department of Justice, for a judgeship on the US Court of Appeals in the Third Circuit.

The Senate Judiciary Committee meeting wrapped up after New Jersey Senator Cory Booker, a Democrat, expressed concerns. He claimed that Republican Senator Chuck Grassley was rushing the voting process and stifling discussion among senators. Booker criticized the procedure during the meeting, noting that it hadn’t allowed him and other Democrats to fully participate.

“Why are you doing this? This is outrageous!” Booker exclaimed.

Also voicing her concerns was Senator Mazie Hirono from Hawaii, who commented, “This is a kangaroo court, and that’s what we have here.” She asserted that it was unacceptable to sidestep their own rules and fail to meet congressional obligations. “This is incredible! There’s a way to do this,” added Booker. “If you want to force this, if you want to circumvent the regulations, it’s all laid out. It’s clear! There’s a path to achieve your goals.”

According to reports, Bove received overwhelming support, with a 12-0 vote in favor, all from Republicans, while not a single Democrat voted for him.

Grassley’s office is considering moving Bove’s nomination forward, despite Democratic opposition, as noted by NBC News.

Emil Bove was nominated by President Donald Trump and previously served as Trump’s defense attorney and as a representative attorney general at the DOJ. Some outlets have referred to Bove as Trump’s “Enforcer” after his involvement in leading a group focused on perceived weaponization of the DOJ.
