Democratic strategist James Carville believes racism is behind Republicans’ stronger support for Israel over Palestine.

In the latest episode of “Political War Room” PodcastCarville and co-host Al Hunt discussed why there is a disparity in support for Israel between Republicans and Democrats, saying Republicans are more united in their support for Israel because their population is “whiter.”

“And I suspect that the reason most of these people call themselves pro-Israel is because Jews are whiter than Palestinians,” he told Hunt.

The topic came up during the question-and-answer session, with Hunt reading a guest’s question about how a party that has openly embraced the “alt-right” and “neo-Nazis” can position itself as “the most pro-Israel party.”

Carville countered that the party’s racism motivates its support for Israel.

“The root of this problem is misogyny and racism and we have to acknowledge that. It’s not a matter of policy dictates,” he said, adding that Republicans support “white” Jews over Palestinians.

The strategist then discussed why pro-Palestinian protesters chose to focus on disrupting Democratic events, even though Republicans are far more supportive of Israel.

Citing a pro-Palestinian activist to explain this dynamic, he said: “They say we target Democrats because, well, they think they have a more tolerant view on this. But we don’t do anything with Republicans because we have no leverage.”

Carville reminded the audience that anti-Israel activists are planning demonstrations at next week’s Democratic National Convention, and also said states like Michigan pose electoral issues for Democrats because of their large Muslim populations.

The strategist expressed frustration that Democrats have to deal with this while Republicans don’t. “Well, it’s just stupid political bullshit.”

“So you’re not influencing other people, so you end up hurting the people who are most likely to actually be able to solve this problem in a satisfactory way,” he said.

“I don’t understand the logic of that. I just can’t understand it. At all.”

Earlier this year, Carville warned against pro-Palestinian voters organizing protest votes in the Michigan Democratic primary against a Biden/Harris administration that continues to support Israel in its war against Hamas.

“Well, whatever happens, I know this is a big deal, and those who are untried are going to fare pretty well,” Carville told MSNBC host Jen Psaki in February.
