Mary Peltola, the former tribal court judge, was voted out of Congress in 2024. Now, she’s making a comeback effort to unseat incumbent Sen. Daniel Sullivan (R) and represent Alaska in the U.S. Senate.
Despite having an advantage over Sullivan in polls for a considerable time, her campaign now seems to be faltering.

Following the unexpected departure of senior campaign staffer Anton McParland, a report highlighted troubling aspects of Peltola’s past, revealing a side not commonly seen in public.
Multiple former aides and texts obtained by the Times have suggested that Peltola used derogatory terms like “faggot” and “retarded” in her exchanges with staff. In one instance, she reportedly referred to a commercial fisheries executive who shared a selfie with her, saying, “F**k that retard.”
While Peltola’s campaign denied the use of “faggot,” they did admit to her using “retarded,” which she expressed regret over.
Considering the resurgence of both terms in popular culture—even among more progressive circles—this revelation might not be the most shocking element of the report.
Former staff characterized Peltola as having a notoriously volatile temperament. Allegedly, she exhibited angry outbursts, occasionally dancing around and stomping her feet in frustration; some accused her of pushing an aide. The work environment was described as so toxic that it pushed some staff members to attend therapy or lose weight.
Much more concerning than claims of Peltola having her staff care for her daughter’s pet chameleon was a text from 2024, where she seemingly expressed a wish for a member of the Planned Parenthood board to suffer a fatal outcome from a “botched abortion.”
Interestingly, despite being pro-abortion, Peltola reportedly critiqued Planned Parenthood in her last year in Congress, disagreeing with them over a defense bill that included pro-life stipulations.
In light of the New York Times’ insights, Peltola’s campaign has swiftly entered damage control mode, suggesting she has been a victim of circumstance and that her alleged abusive behavior stemmed from grief.
Harry Child, a spokesperson for Alaskans for Mary, commented, “Mary tragically lost both her mother and husband within a few months in 2023. During that time, she was managing children dealing with their own grief, working full-time in Congress distant from home, and running a challenging re-election campaign—all while coping with significant personal loss.”
“Like many who experience severe tragedies in quick succession, Mary faced challenges in managing her grief,” Child continued. “However, she treats her team well and has maintained positive relationships with her staff over nearly three decades in public service. It’s wrong to exaggerate or misrepresent this difficult time in her life as a habitual behavior pattern.”
As of now, Peltola’s campaign has not responded to inquiries from Blaze News.
Alex Latcham, executive director of the Senate Leadership Fund, a GOP-affiliated organization, remarked, “Mary Peltola’s closest aides describe a routine history of physical violence and explosive anger, making her unfit for the U.S. Senate.” He further noted that her harsh and disturbing comments do not represent the values of Alaska, urging for a public apology to her staff and the Alaskan public.
