House Democrats React to DSA Platform
Leading House Democrats seemed uncertain when questioned about the platform of the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA), which aims to overhaul the U.S. political system as laid out in the Constitution.
When confronted with inquiries regarding this new agenda, Rep. Ro Khanna (D-Calif.) remarked, “I don’t support it,” adding that he hadn’t reviewed the proposal yet.
The DSA’s platform proposes significant changes, such as abolishing the Senate and the presidency, along with the Supreme Court. These changes could fundamentally alter the U.S. Constitution and the nature of American governance.
It raises questions about whether DSA members planning to run for Congress in the upcoming midterm elections could genuinely swear an oath to “defend the Constitution” while aiming to implement the DSA’s platform.
According to Fox, the DSA’s “Workers Have More Rights” initiative employs language reminiscent of Communist Party doctrine and advocates for dismantling the Senate, replacing the president and the Supreme Court with an executive and judicial arm directly elected and subservient to a new socialist Congress.
If this proposal were to be adopted, it could curtail government power and eliminate the essential checks and balances that prevent the majority from imposing its will without restraint, essentially allowing the majority to act like a mob.
The Founders created a system that was groundbreaking for its time, incorporating ideas from major Enlightenment thinkers.
When approached by Fox News Digital, progressive Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) chose not to respond regarding her stance on the DSA’s socialist agenda.
Other Democrats, including Khanna, have expressed their lack of familiarity with the platform, which some critics argue serves as a talking point for the party to sidestep contentious aspects of the DSA’s proposals.
Rep. Pete Aguilar (D-Calif.) remarked, “I’m not a member of the DSA, so I can’t comment on their documents.”
The DSA’s platform also includes calls for dismantling Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and granting blanket amnesty to all undocumented immigrants, even those with criminal records.
Additionally, it advocates for ending all deportations, extending voting rights to noncitizens, including those with prior convictions, and relaxing immigration controls to encourage migration.
Moreover, the platform endorses defunding the Department of the Army.
According to a statement from Fox, the DSA’s official publication outlines the criteria for candidates seeking DSA endorsement, emphasizing a formal role for labor in the recognition process.
Furthermore, the resolution advocating for the “Workers Deserve More” platform specifies that candidates should align their campaigns with DSA initiatives as closely as possible.
With a number of socialist candidates already securing Democratic primary victories in states like New York, mainstream Democrats have largely refrained from condemning the DSA’s radical proposals.
Rep. Aguilar indicated to Fox News Digital that he is “not at all concerned” about socialist candidates shaping Democratic policy.
“I look forward to collaborating with all of my colleagues in the Democratic Party,” Aguilar concluded.
