Democrats Demand ICE Departure from Los Angeles

On Tuesday, Democratic leaders asked for Immigration Customs Enforcement (ICE) to withdraw from Los Angeles, believing that local authorities should step in to restore law and order.

Critics argue that confusion arose after the President deployed ICE agents without proper oversight. Many claim that these agents have been profiling members of the community, often arresting individuals without warrants.

The unrest flared up over the weekend, prompted by Mayor Karen Bass’s call to action against ICE following their operations that resulted in the detention of undocumented immigrants.

This situation has led to substantial unrest. Footage from the riots showed individuals engaged in acts like burning American flags, confronting police, and vandalizing property, including the Los Angeles Police Department headquarters.

During a discussion, guest host Christina Rafini inquired about ICE’s presence in Torres’s district and the response from local residents. Torres, representing parts of Los Angeles County, emphasized that locals should manage the safety and security of their communities, criticizing ICE for what she perceives as racial profiling.

“They don’t target individuals by name; instead, they pursue people based on appearance. This kind of behavior needs to stop,” she asserted, urging for a retreat of ICE agents to allow locals to take charge of restoring order.

Concerns among the local population have escalated due to the “terrifying tactics” employed by federal agents, according to Torres. She noted that community members fear for their families, worrying that their children may not return from school or that loved ones might not return home, which has made many hesitant to report any crimes.

Trump defended his administration’s decision to deploy the National Guard, suggesting that failure to act would have resulted in further chaos in Los Angeles. He remarked that it was a critical measure.

Furthermore, Trump indicated plans to send hundreds of U.S. Marines to help control the situation in response to the riots.
